Grays Chief On Brink Of Quitting

Mick Woodward, the man who has bankrolled Grays Athletic march to the top of the Conference, is on the verge of quitting after supporters questioned his running of the Club and alleged misappropriation of FA grants and dubious gate figures.

The Grays message board was shut down in midweek after claims were posted that an alleged £600,000 grant was misspent, and that the midweek gate of 1543 was actually over 2000. The actual size of the grant was £150,000 - for floodlight and turnstile work as well as the construction of a new stand to bring the ground up to standard, and Woodward claims the gate figures are accurate.

Woodward has also disputed the size of Grays' wage bill, once thought to be over £20,000 per week - "These people are deluded. They think our weekly wage budget is £20,000 a week - I can assure you it is £8,500."
Woodward has called an open meeting at the Club on Wednesday at 8pm, with a firm message to the fans - "If they want me out they only have to say so."
