Bath Chaps?

Formed over 100 years ago Bath City have been one of the top non-league sides in Britain. During the 2nd World War they became the only non-league club to win a league title and since then have twice won the old Southern League, only missing out on election to the Football League by a few votes in 1978. They were Southern League opponents of the Bulls in the "Newcastle" year and in early April '72, a gate of 6708 watched United defeat Bath 2-1 at Edgar Street. Interestingly, the highest home League gate that season came when 7639 witnessed the 3-1 defeat of Merthyr Tydfil.

This coming season will see Bath City compete in The Conference South at their Twerton Park headquarters. Twerton Park is an older style ground, it's been there for about 70 years, and is large for a club at this level. Bristol Rovers ground shared in the 80s & 90s. The ground capacity is 8,840. There are two stands, which hold 790 & 236, uncovered terraces behind each goal and covered terracing everywhere else. Away fans generally stand at the "Bristol" end (the western end) and if there is segregation they get that area and the smaller stand. Bulls News is not aware of the admission costs for this game.

By Car: - You have a choice of using the route via Gloucester, the M5 and the M4 or alternatively, crossing the Severn Bridge on the M4 via Monmouth. In either case, to avoid Bristol traffic you are advised to stay on the M4 until J18 then travel south on the A46 through Cold Aston following signs for Bath. Entering Bath, branch left onto the A4 (sign Bath, Warminster) and then at Cleveland Place bear left onto Cleveland Place East (A36 sign through traffic). Turn right at the lights into Sydney Place (sign through traffic) then continue on the A36 following signs for Bristol passing the Express/Holiday Inn. At Windsor Bridge, continue forward and at the lights turn left onto High Street (sign Twerton). The Twerton Park postcode is BA2 1DB. Distance Approx. 70 miles. Allow up to two hours.

Plenty of Pubs in Bath city centre but near to the ground is The White Horse in Shophouse Road, which appears to receive reasonable reports while The Full Moon and The Old Crown are in the Twerton High Street.

Enjoy.
