Millers Open Up With Defensive Problems

The Bulls opening day opponents, Rotherham United, opened up their pre-season campaign with a 5-4 loss to Altrincham.

The match left manager Mark Robins admitting that his defenders had not performed. The Millers fielded a team with eight new signings, and changed virtually the entire side on the hour mark. They took the lead three times in the opening half-hour but Alty, featuring ex-Bulls Chris Lane and Jake Sedgemore, came back each time.

Robins told their official site: "Obviously you don't want to concede that many goals but we have worked mainly on attacking play so far and haven't done anything defensively.

"Having said that it was naïve and although we have emphasised the attacking play we've got to be able to cope with that. We have had one or two words and it shouldn't happen again."

The Millers took around 250 fans to Altrincham and are expected to travel to Edgar Street in good numbers. They have already been told that the match will be pay on the day.

In other friendly news, Macclesfield and Stoke played out a 1-1 draw with ex-Bull Danny Thomas providing the cross for the Macc goal. Matt Baker, Michael Husbands, and John Eustace also featured in the game.
