Yeovil suffering from poor gates

It isn't only Hereford United who have started the season with lower gates than anticipated. League One Yeovil are also wondering where their support has gone.

Last Saturday, Hereford United had their best gate, 3936, so far this season for the visit of MK Dons but the average is 3196 which is 4% less than last season despite currently being sixth in the League.

However this drop is less than that at Yeovil which gates are down by 8.4% compared with last season.

"We wanted a 6,000 average and we are on about 5,000. We look at averages on gates against previous years for the equivalent game. We offered a very good season ticket discount and we got our 3,000 target there," said chairman John Fry.

"Football fans want to see goals and entertaining performances - it isn't like that in League One. It is very, very competitive and it is very easy to be at the bottom of the table. The season is going very well apart from the drop in crowds and the club can't do any more regarding its position in the league and the resources it has. The results against the availability of the resource have been pretty good."

A marketing manager has recently been appointed at Huish Park to help promote the club.

Last week Graham Turner told BBC Hereford and Worcester that the lower than expected gates at Edgar Street 'had been a mystery'.
