Decent Workout says Turner

Hereford United manager Graham Turner told the assembled press that he thought tonight's friendly had provided the Bulls with 'a decent workout against good quality players'.

"The players worked hard. It's been a well worth-while exercise.

"We feel we've made a little bit more progress in our preparations.

"We've had a look at one or two trialists. It may disrupt things a little bit having to put them in there but it's the only chance we have to look at them.

"I think there were some reasonable individual performances tonight."

Turner was asked by Trevor Owens of BBC Hereford and Worcester about this evening's trialists.

"(Jerry Ani) He's Nigerian. He's been playing in Portugal. It's agents that we know that have asked us to have a look at him.

"Jerry has only just come in as has Sam Oji at the back, Richard Langley also in midfield, experienced mid-field player. You have to give them a chance to settle in training and a game like this."

Turner also revealed that he had not be able to sign two championship players.

"We've just been informed today by a championship club that two players we were optimistic we might have got - one has got injured and will be out for five weeks and the other one possibly getting near the first team. So he won't be allowed out at the present time."

Meanwhile Southampton coach Jan Poortvliet said: "I expect more from my forwards - more movement, more direct, more when we don't have the ball.

"Maybe it's a bit of confidence that some players need."
