News Round Up

Stevenage beat Cambridge 3-1 in the opening bout of the Conference play-offs. The teams were still goalless when Boro were reduced to ten men for an innocuous looking aerial challenge, but beat the U's thanks to two goals from in-demand striker Steve Morison. Torquay play Histon tonight, with the second legs of both matches on Monday.

Accrington's 'lowest wage bill in the League' is now even lower. The previously claimed £900,000 a season budget has been cut by 25%. Notts County have released five players including veteran goal getter Jamie Forrester. Veteran Michael Johnson is also to retire, while a number of others are to be offered new terms.

Darlington have named assistant boss Martin Gray as their interim manager after Dave Penney joined Oldham on a two and a half year deal. Ebbsfleet will be operating on a budget of just £4,000 a week next season without additional funding. Their current wage bill is believed to be treble that at least.

Northwich may want to get their priorities right. Owner Jim Rushe has confirmed he has placed the £75,000 deposit on buying their stadium, which they hope to complete within a month - but the club remains under a transfer embargo for non-payment of players' wages. Bradford boss Stuart McCall will remain with the club after discussions with the club board.

Aldershot are the latest club to announce a reduction in their playing budget for the coming season.
