O'Kelly 'Sacked By Text'

Doncaster sacked their management pair Sean O'Driscoll and ex-Bull Richard O'Kelly by text message, the local press report.

The Yorkshire Post says the club made their decision at midnight on Thursday to dispense with the pair, after agreeing terms with Dean Saunders, but were unable to contact O'Driscoll to tell him the news. He only found out the following morning via a text message left by their Chief Executive, less than an hour before the decision was made public.

Both O'Driscoll and former Bulls physio/coach O'Kelly are believed to still be on gardening leave while negotiations take place over the majority balance of the three year contracts the pair held. Neither would be able to secure another job without agreeing a settlement or walking away from significant six-figure sums for nothing.

The thought of a hefty settlement for the pair is not likely to bother Rovers chairman John Ryan. The club is expected to lose £4million this season and the cosmetic surgery millionaire has already allowed Saunders to open talks with free agent Premier League stars El Hadj Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda in a bid to make the play-offs this season.

On Saturday, Keith Hall fuelled message board speculation of a return to the Bulls by O'Kelly during his BBC Hereford and Worcester commentary by referring to a 'certain someone' in the stands watching the game. It is currently unclear whether O'Kelly was actually at the Cheltenham game or, indeed, it was him Hall was referring to.
