Shrews Set For FA Investigation

Shrewsbury Town's promotion hopes are to be hit with an impending FA charge.

Current chairman Roland Wycherley is under investigation after admitting, on the club's official site, to making an approach for then Bulls manager Graham Turner some 16 years ago - going so far as to meet Turner 'just off the M6' in an attempt to coax him to the then Gay Meadow.

On their official site, on March 14th, Wycherley admits: "As soon as I became chairman nearly 16 years ago, I met Graham just off the M6 to discuss the managerial position as Shrewsbury but he hadn't been at Hereford long at the time."

At the time the former Wolves manager was under his original three year contract, and any approaches for his services had to be made to the existing board. It is understood that, following an investigation and the taking of a number of statements from board members at Edgar Street at the time, no agreement was in place to allow such talks to happen.

While UK law limits the time frame in which someone can be charged, the FA have no such ruling and are likely to issue charges later this week regarding an illegal approach for the then Bulls manager.

It is currently unclear what sanctions the Shrews can expect for such an approach. The act of 'tapping-up' a person usually happens with a player, so any charge relating to a manager is expected to break new ground.

(This is, of course, rubbish)
